Whitecap #91 was brought to the Bay Area in 1962 by Tom V. Allen directly from Norway.
Whitecap gets her name not only from the white frothy waves in San Francisco Bay during a blustery summer day, but also from her striking signature, white bottom paint. Originally built by Bjarne Aas in 1961 for a boat show, she was purchased by Mr. Allen before she ever made it to the show room floor. Lovingly kept, she is the only IOD in San Francisco that has a varnished hull, inside and out! .
Whitecap has been raced extensively as part of the San Francisco fleet and remains berthed in the San Francisco Marina West Harbor. Her owners, Robert Garant and Henry Hernandez continue to race her in PHRF events, Wednesday Night Series at StFYC and as part of the SF IOD fleet.
