San Francisco, CA. (October 1, 2008) - Racing in the International One Design World Championship out of San Francisco Yacht Club has been extremely competitive.  In winds of 15 to 22 knots in the second race on Monday, the eleven teams from around the world experienced the afternoon delight of a breeze in the Olympic Circle on San Francisco Bay.  Tuesday provided a bit lighter winds but just as intense of competition. The battle for the World Championship title is between last year’s champion, Charlie Van Voorhis of Fisher’s Island, NY, and nine time world champion Bill Widnall of Marblehead, MA.  They have each won two races in the regatta so far and are tied at 8 points each.  David Rockefeller, representing Northeast Harbor, ME, is in third with 12 points, easily within striking distance of the leaders.  Four races remain as the competitors take a day of rest on Wednesday.  Racing resumes on Thursday with the awards ceremony scheduled for Friday evening.  The full results to date can be found at the San Francisco International One Design Class web site – www.sfiod.org/worlds.

Peter Lyons will be shooting stills which can be found on the www.sfiod.org/worlds web site and can send STILLS to the PRESS.
